Le jour du Souvenir est une journée pour commémorer ceux qui ont combattu, qui ont servi et qui sont morts pour notre nation. Tout le monde a sa propre manière de rendre hommage et Coast to Coast Sports (C2C Sports) a organisé un événement spécial. Le 11 et 12 novembre dernier, C2C Sports a accueilli un match de basketball pour rendre hommage aux Anciens combattants de l’armée, de la marine et des forces aériennes au Canada (ANAVETS) et a invité la Sergente Vicky Farr pour représenter les FAC, afin de rendre l’événement plus mémorable.
C2C Sports, originaire de Winnipeg, est un réseau qui aide et promeut les sports amateurs au Manitoba et au-delà. Chaque année, il organise un match (armée versus marine) pour rendre hommage aux ANAVETS et aux vétérans et les FAC. C’est aussi une opportunité de compétitionner pour les athlètes évoluant à l’école secondaire. Ce dernier point a été un défi constant au cours des dernières années, dû à la pandémie qui a causé des troubles pour l’entraînement physique.
L’équipe armée a très bien joué, mais l’équipe marine a remporté le match et le trophée Royce Jeffries Memorial avec 81 points. Le joueur le plus utile de la partie 2022 est Noah Robinson, un honneur bien mérité!
Sgt Farr est la première technicienne en météorologie de l’élément armée depuis l’unification avec le Commandement du renseignement des Forces canadiennes (COMRENSFC). Elle est une instructrice à l’École de météorologie des Forces canadiennes (É Met FC) à la 17e Escadre Winnipeg et a servi pendant plus de 16 ans au sein des FAC. En tant que mère d’une jeune fille, elle trouve des opportunités afin de représenter les femmes dans les FAC pour partager la fierté et l’inspiration à sa fille. Sgt Farr fut honorée lorsqu’elle a été choisie pour représenter les FACs et l’ANAVETS lors de cette occasion spéciale.
Fondé en 1840 (possiblement certaines unités ont été établies plus tôt, vers 1700), ANAVETS est l’association des anciens combattants ainée. L’association a évolué dans le temps, afin d’inclure tous les trois éléments, mais le but n’a jamais changé : fournir de l’information et supporter tous les anciens combattants. ANAVETS à travers le Canada fournit des ressources et organise plusieurs événements pour supporter et aider le bien-être, la santé mentale, les subventions et allocations et encore plus pour les anciens combattants. L’association aide aussi la communauté en supportant différents programmes, activités sportives, et bourses d’études.

Remembrance Day is a day to remember those who fought, those who served, are serving, and those made the ultimate sacrifice. Everyone has their own way to reflect and honour them; Coast to Coast Sports (C2C Sports) is no different. On the 11th and 12th of November, C2C Sports hosted their annual Veteran Week with the ANAVETS (Army, Navy, and Air Force Veterans) Tribute Basketball Game and invited Sergeant Vicky Farr to represent the CAF and help make the event more memorable.
C2C Sports, originating in Winnipeg, is a network that helps and promotes amateur sports in Manitoba and beyond. Every year, they hold a tribute game (Army versus Navy) for ANAVETS to honour veterans and the CAF. This also provides an opportunity for high school athletes to compete, which was particularly special this year due to the global pandemic causing delays and compromised training.
Although the Army team played a great game, the Navy team won the Royce Jeffries Memorial Trophy with 81 points. The well-deserved Navy MVP for 2022 is Noah Robinson.
Sgt Farr, the first army Meteorological Technician since the unification with the Canadian Forces Intelligence Command (CFINTCOM), is an instructor at the Canadian Forces School of Meteorology (CFS Met) at 17 Wing Winnipeg and has served over 16 years in the CAF. As a mother of a young girl, she continuously strives to take on opportunities to represent women in the CAF and to make her daughter proud. Sgt Farr was honoured to have been selected to represent the CAF and the ANAVETS for this special occasion.
ANAVETS is Canada’s oldest veterans’ association, founded in 1840 (some units may have been created in the 1700s). The association has evolved to include all three elements over time but the goal remains the same: to provide information and support to veterans. ANAVETS in Canada continuously provides a wide range of resources and events to help veterans with their well-being, mental health, benefits and entitlements, and much more. They also reach out to help the community through different programs, sports, and scholarships.
