  • MWBL Veteran Tickets of Valour

    Published on: September 18, 2015

    OUR MISSION

Giving Something to Those Who Gave.Veteran Tickets of Valour (Vet Tix) provides FREE event tickets to family members of troops Killed In Action (K.I.A.), for our Military and Veterans to enjoy Mid West Basketball Exhibition games for family enjoyment.

Attending these events reduces stress through entertainment, strengthens family bonds, builds life long memories and encourages service members to stay engaged with Canadian life and local communities.

Giving free event tickets is an expression of appreciation, acknowledgement and an enduring symbol that we, as a nation, honor the service of our troops today and long after their tour of duty has passed. Helping our veterans attend events provides positive family and life experiences after their years of service to our country.

    CORE VALUES

    • Support and Recognition – A yellow ribbon on your car shows support, but sending a veteran to a game with their family is a real gift of gratitude.
    • Quality of Life – Our service members fought and sacrificed for our life and liberty, we would like to give to their pursuit of happiness.
    • Family – We include family. Service Members rely on the support of their families. We strengthen family bonds by encouraging shared experiences that create lasting memories.
    • Participation in the Salute of our Canadian Nation Flag during O Canada at the beginning of games.

  • Read to Succeed

    Published on: September 18, 2015

Read to Succeed attracts students from Kindergarten to Grade 7, and encourages them to improve their reading skills and overall studies as they prepare for their intermediate school years. Mid West Basketball League (MWBL) players, most of whom are high school students themselves, visit participating schools and speak to students about the importance of education. They also present a reading and activity challenge with incentives for each student to track and achieve specific reading and physical activity goals.

Classes participate in a reading program based on books of interest and appropriate reading levels for each Grade, as well as a physical activity program, for a two-week period. Each student completes a passport log of minutes spent reading and being physically active outside of school hours. Parents assist and support each student in tracking their progess by intialling each student’s entry in the passport log, in order to contribute to an overall class tally.

A successful class tally, based on each student achieving 15 minutes of reading and 30 minutes of physical activity per evening over a two-week period, will qualify the entire class to receive tickets to attend a MWBL game.

Any schools interested in partcipating or obtaining more information on the Read to Succeed Literacy Initiative are encouraged to contact the MWBL Office @ 204 298-8098 or by email – info@manitobadrive.com
